After hearing her customers’ frustrations regarding the lack of innovation and comfort in women’s clothing, Marcia (Pinky) Charles set out to alleviate those problems when she opened her store, Pinky Rose Boutique, on Pico Boulevard in 2003.
However, she found that one her biggest challenges being the first boutique to open on Pico Boulevard was the lack of walk-in traffic, which caused her to find creative ways to bring in clients.
Charles, a completely self-taught designer, combined her goal to serve others and her buying, merchandising, and styling skills to create the Nadda Dress with the quote “If she can wear it, I can wear it” in mind so it can be styled an endless amount of ways for women to find the perfect look they desire.
Since opening 15 years ago, Charles has come to love the way the neighborhood has evolved because she feels that the other businesses are starting to see the potential the street has to offer.
“I have the special ability to connect and style any individual,” Charles said. “I work to create a happy environment for all shopping occasions, and serve as a platform for designers to showcase their creations of total uniqueness.”
The Boutique’s success could not have been achieved without Charles’ experience in the fashion industry since the age of fifteen and her belief that the industry should listen to the needs of their customers.
“People come to me for the connection, the supreme service I provide, and the budget-friendly, quality clothing,” Charles said.
